Cape Town is the World Design Capital 2014

Cape Town’s Year as World Design Capital 2014 (WDC2014) gives the travel trade fresh ideas and itineraries to promote in 2014.

It offers visitor’s an unprecedented opportunity to see and experience the real beating heart of Cape
Town. Awarded to an African city for the first time, it’s a fitting reflection of how design has become a powerful way to making cities more competitive, livable and desirable places to visit and explore. A well-established and desirable destination, WDC2014 offers new experiences to those visitors who are looking to explore beyond the beaches and mountains.

The official program encompasses a year-long program of signature WDC2014 events including a Design House Exhibition in November 2014, a seven-day event that will see international exhibitors showcasing the best designs from their own cities as well as number of new design tours running throughout 2014, highlights include:

“Urban Design and Livability Walking Tours” offered by Future Cape Town
“Insider Walking Tours” developed for visitors by one Cape Town’s trend-setting tour companies, Coffeebeans Routes.
“Public Spaces Walking Tours” where visitors can meet and interact with the designers behind some of Cape Town’s most beautiful public spaces.

Visitors to Cape Town will also be able to enjoy exploring the urban scene at Albert and Sir Lowry Roads in Woodstock, The Fringe and the City Centre, as well as the popular Winelands.
