Australia Wakes Up To New Zealand On Sunrise

New Zealand’s reputation as a world-renowned winter destination and its stunning alpine scenery will be
Sunrise prepped for NZ tripbeamed into Aussie homes this June on Australia’s number one breakfast programme, Ch7’s Sunrise.

Lauded as Australia’s highest rated breakfast show with over 1.7 million viewers per week, Sunrise this morning announced they will broadcast live from New Zealand over two days on 19-20th June. This will be the first time the entire show will visit an international destination in 2014 and first-ever in New Zealand.

Sunrise Executive Producer Michael Pell said the show is now in its 17th year and the opportunity to bring the show to New Zealand’s South Island in the winter along with 60 viewers is sure to excite its audience.

“This will be the first time we have broadcast the entire show from the snow! The stage is set for two adrenaline- fuelled days of Sunrise and each of our presenters has a winter challenge to complete while we’re there,” he said.

Accor’s Novotel Queenstown Lakeside, nestled on the shores of Lake Wakatipu and right in the heart of Queenstown will play host to Sunrise and its viewers whilst filming takes place in and around the winter broadcast.

Viewers will visit the remote Skippers Canyon, enjoy a signature lunch at Amisfield Winery & Bistro overlooking Lake Hayes and sip cocktails surrounded by over 18 tonnes of ice architecture at Minus 5 ICEBAR. Sunrise viewers will also be treated to an exclusive welcome function and trivia dinner with Sunrise hosts David Koch, Samantha Armytage, Mark Beretta, Natalie Barr and Edwina Bartholomew.

The filming will include live weather crosses from New Zealand’s magical winter locations including Mt Hutt, Tekapo, Mackenzie, Remarkables and Wanaka every day from Monday 16th June in the lead up to live action from Coronet Peak on Thursday 19th June with the Cash Cow.

The partnership between Tourism New Zealand, Accor and the Network Seven was secured through Tourism New Zealand Australia and follows the launch of Tourism New Zealand’s latest ‘More magic in every day’ winter advertising campaign designed to encourage Australians to discover more winter magic adventures with friends in New Zealand.

Tourism New Zealand General Manager Australia Tony Saunders said it was a huge coup to secure Australia’s most popular breakfast show and bring it to New Zealand and is the ultimate opportunity to present winter magic in New Zealand to its largest international visitor market.

“Integrating high impact broadcast opportunities with our TV advertising campaign further motivates Australians to discover a broad range of winter activities as well as reinforce how accessible we are to Australians,” he said.

The live filming will coincide with the 40th anniversary of the American Express Queenstown Winter Festival set to take place in Queenstown 20-29 June.
