Thai tourism gets a boost with nationwide Amazing Thailand Grand Sale privileges from Tourism Authority of Thailand and Visa

unnamed (17)Shoppers and travellers can experience new “everywhere” privileges from Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and Visa as Amazing Thailand Grand Sale 2014 promotions are being rolled out across Thailand.

For the first time in TAT and Visa’s 16-year partnership, Visa cardholders can enjoy savings, rewards, shopping events and grand prizes not just in Bangkok but other major travel destinations from as far north as Chiang Mai to the southern tip of the country in Hat Yai. The “everywhere” privileges tap into Visa’s extensive network of merchants and the close relationships fostered with them.

Mr. Somboon Krobteeranon, Visa country manager, Thailand and Mrs. Vilaiwan Twichasri, Deputy Governor for Tourism Products and Business of the TAT presided over the launch of the Amazing Thailand Grand Sale (ATGS) 2014 at Siam Paragon provides even more rewards, discounts, and prizes this year from today until September 31 at over 15,000 shopping centers, department stores, brand-name outlets, and restaurants in seven major tourist destinations – Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket, Hat Yai, Pattaya, Hua Hin and Ko Samui

While Bangkok, one of the world’s top cities for tourists, is still a springboard for travellers to explore the rest of Thailand, increasingly, as the latest statistics show, tourists travel direct to other destinations in too. For example, according to recent figures from TAT, there has been significant rise in the number of travellers flying direct to Chiang Mai, Phuket and Samui with increases of 85 percent, 15 percent and 207 percent, respectively, compared to previous year.

The organizers believe this is a good opportunity to extend Thai hospitality and services to travelers in these other major destinations. More than 15,000 shopping centers, department stores, brand-name outlets, and restaurants in seven major tourist destinations – Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket, Hat Yai, Pattaya, Hua Hin and Ko Samui – will participate in this year’s campaign, giving out special deals and bargains for tourists.

Kick-starting the Amazing Thailand Grand Sale is the first-ever shopping competition, scheduled to take place on 18 June, 2014, in the heart and bustle of Bangkok’s most popular shopping districts – unnamed (16)Ratchaprasong and Siam, through the capital’s most popular shopping malls – Siam Paragon, CentralWorld, and Gaysorn.

Fifteen teams, consisting of well-known media figures and celebrities from 11 Asian countries* will be assigned one of three shopping routes along the BTS Skytrain or five teams for each route. The teams will be given a shopping bag and the equivalent of 10,000 Baht which they have to buy certain items at specified shops in the Gaysorn, Siam Paragon or CentralWorld shopping complexes in two hours.

The game entails taking photographs of assigned products to be posted on Instagram with #amazingtgs2014 hashtag. In a game show format, the shopping action in real time will be put up on screens at the main stage in Siam Paragon.

The fun and games come at a crucial time for the growth of Thai tourism industry.

Visa stands by the Thai people and plays its part in helping to grow the travel industry, a key contributor to the country’s GDP. The three and a half month campaign offers continuous discounts and special privileges for all kind of goods and services, from global brands to local crafts, from car rental to facial spa,for all Visa cardholders running until the end of September.

“The extensive geographic coverage of the campaign means travelers with Visa cards can enjoy fast and secure payments and special privileges everywhere they want to be,” added Mr. Somboon.

The campaign culminates in a lucky draw to win an all-inclusive travel package worth at least THB 3 million.** For every THB 500 spent at participating shops Visa cardholders will receive a coupon to enter the lucky draw.  The “Travel 365 days in Thailand” prize includes Thai Airways round tickets from your home country to Thailand, or if you are a Thai resident, air tickets from your city to domestic destination, for two persons and hotel accommodation at any Centara Hotel & Resort at a maximum 10 of nights per visit. *** The prize allows the winner to travel every month, but excludes any tour package.
